Outdoor Survival 101: The Essential Things You Need

If you’re a person who loves to go camping or hiking in places where you literally don’t get the usual conveniences of living, then it only means you should be carrying with you a survival gear all the time. So before you go out there, you must know what your survival kit must contain.

1 – Knife

When you’re camping and you don’t bring with you a knife as part of your outdoor survival gear, then you’re like lacking one hand. You should understand that a knife isn’t just for use in the kitchen because it also is an essential part of your survival gear. The foremost reason why you shouldn’t be going out there without it is because it does things that no other outdoor survival gear can. The list of functions that a knife does includes cutting practically everything like rope, cloth, and bandages, opening cans and packages, creating wood tools, and cutting food.

2 – Rope

Rope is undoubtedly an essential part of any DIY survival gear. As a matter of fact, it’s almost impossible to survive out there in the wilderness if you don’t have a rope with you. The rope plays a very important role in a survival situation as it is used for so many different purposes, including that of building emergency shelters, fixing things, lashing poles, making animal traps, fishing, climbing, and making splints for injuries.

3 – Water Container

Quite frankly, this one does not really need some explanation. One of the most important things you should know about survival is that an average person is able to last for several days without food as long as there is access to drinking water. That’s why if you plan on surviving out there, you must endure bringing with you a water bottle or any other container that can store water for drinking. You need to understand that not all water you get access to outdoors is clean.

4 – Signaling Equipment

Whenever you find yourself in a survival situation while camping in an isolated and remote area, one of your priorities is to find a way to make contact with other people. Bear in mind that if you let several days slip away without making the effort to make contact, your chances of being rescued will substantially decrease. For you to be sure you have the ability to contact people for a possible rescue, you have to always bring with you a signaling device. A mirror, whistle, and anything that can produce light will be of great help. Any signaling equipment must be considered as an essential tactical survival gear that you can’t afford to forget bringing.

In the end, one article wouldn’t be enough to list all the other essential things you should be bringing if you really want to survive out there, regardless of how challenging and dire the survival scenario is.
